LEEI-5 Construction of an Ammeter and a Voltmeter

Features

  • Comprehensive experiment content

  • Clear physical concepts

  • Stable and reliable experimental results

  • Thoughtful and practical configuration

Introduction

Pointer DC ammeters and voltmeters are constructed from galvanometers. A galvanometer is typically a magneto-electric type ammeter that can only handle microampere or milliampere currents, making it suitable for measuring very small currents and voltages. To measure larger currents or voltages, the galvanometer must be modified to extend its measurement range. Once modified, the meter must be calibrated using a standard meter, and its accuracy grade should be determined.

The LEEI-5 experimental apparatus includes all the necessary components and devices for constructing a milliampere meter or voltmeter. These include a DC power supply, a magneto-electric type microamp galvanometer, a resistance box, a digital voltmeter, a digital ammeter, and more.

By conducting experiments with this apparatus, students will:

1. Understand the basic structure and operation of a microamp galvanometer.

2. Learn how to extend a galvanometer's measurement range and grasp the principles of constructing a multimeter.

3. Master the calibration techniques for electric meters.

The instruction manual provides detailed experimental configurations, underlying principles, step-by-step instructions, and sample experiment results. For more information, please click on Experiment Theory and Contents  to explore the apparatus further.
